Recent Work

The works featured here were completed during mid-2025 in the initial months following my formal retirement from the workaday world. They were inspired by the late 2024 passing of my beloved father-in-law, Walter Lenschen–a renowned German scholar whose passions included painting and classical music. Using 1960s era classical sheet music of Bach standards, and a reversion to my love of color and the natural world, I created more than 20 new pieces of original acrylic and collage works on paper. Many of these works offer reflections on key political and environmental issues of the day, especially issues related to global fascism, anti-immigrant sentiment, environmental justice, and democracy. They also build on the enduring legacies of important 20th century influences on my own work and thinking, including figures like Henri Matisse, Paul Klee, and Marc Chagall.
